Section Speed Measurement has been in operation on Polish roads for several years now, since the end of 2015. It already includes dozens of such devices, and 2023 is expected to be the next year of expansion. We will present the current map of sectional speed measurement in Poland and the plans of the Automatic Road Traffic Monitoring Center (CANARD) and the Chief Inspectorate of Road Transport (GITD). Although the topic has been raised for a long time, many drivers still do not know how the measurements are performed and what the limits are. Unfortunately, these accounts for dozens of fines issued each year.
Section Speed Measurement (SPM) should be an effective preventive measure to prevent drivers from breaking the rules.
Sectional Speed Measurement – how it works
Simply put, sectional speed monitoring forces drivers to comply with traffic regulations throughout the entire length of the monitored section. The difference with speed cameras is that they only record the instantaneous speed in front of the device or immediately behind it, depending on its design. After passing the camera, or after a few hundred meters, you can increase your speed.
